Salvadorans to Gov: End
Discrimination
Indigenous communities in El
Salvador called for the
government to meet their demands
for better attention to end the
discrimination to which they are
subjected.
In a meeting of all Salvadoran
indigenous communities, also
attended by a group of
Nicaraguan immigrants,
participants called on the Jose
Antonio Saca government to
establish policies and laws that
include their needs and
recognize their existence.
Catarino Ortiz, representative
of the Cacahuila indigenous
community, said his group
suffers a "deplorable" situation
of in El Salvador, where they
are ignored and neglected.
He urged for adoption of
International Labour
Organization Article 169
regarding indigenous' labor
rights.
The representative of Nicaraguan
indigenous immigrants in El
Salvador, Flor Maria Mendoza,
called on the ARENA government
to normalize their situation and
protect them from abuse.
