Changes
to San José Bus Routes and Stops
in Effect Tomorrow
Driving in San José tomorrow can
more frustrating than usual for
many as the Ministerio de Obras
Pública y Transporte (MOPT) and
the Consejos de Seguridad Vial y
Nacional de vialidad (CONAVI),
looking to better move traffic,
announced a series of road
changes.
The main change is along Avenida
10, where a bus lane has now
been created. The lane is
separated by a curb and buses
will move in a easterly
direction in the mornings and
westerly direction in the
afternoons.
Bus stops changes were also
announced, in an effort to
reduce traffic jams from stopped
buses.
Many buses that now use Paseo
Colón will be rerouted to
Avenida 10 to the south and
Avenida 1 to the north. All bus
stops on the north side of Paseo
Colón will be eliminated
completely. MOPT officials
believe that this move will
greatly decongest he main
roadway into San José.
Beginning at midnight tonight
(Sunday) only those buses on
routes from Guanacaste, Zona
Norte, Hospital México, Pavas,
Escazú-Santa Ana, Cuidad Colón,
Palmichal, Puriscal and Piedras
Blancas will be allowed on Paseo
Colón.
The buses will make a stop in
front of the 2x1 pizza, across
from the Centro Colón and then
at the Coca Cola. Buses will not
be allowed to make stops in
between, except for the Pavas,
Hospital México and Santa Ana/Escazú
buses that will be allowed to
make a stop at the Torre
Mercedes. The same buses will
also leave San José along
Avenida 1 and not Paseo Colón.
The Puntarenas, Alajuela,
Heredia, La Aurora de Alajuelita,
Escazú – Parque de la Salud, La
Aurora de Heredia, La Guácima
and San Joaquín de Flores will
all be routed on Avenida 10. The
buses will stop at Yamuni to the
west and the move along the bus
lane to their final stop
downtown. The buses will not be
allowed to make stops in
between.
For example, the Station Wagon -
the yellow Alajuela bus - will
now move along Avenida 10,
stopping in front of the Sabana
Park and then downtown in front
of the Parque Mercedes. It will
not be allowed to make stops in
between for any reason.
