Cuba Gives Sight to 1400
Guatemalans
Over 1,400 Guatemalans have
undergone ophthalmologic
treatment in Cuba as part of
Operation Miracle, announced
program director Gregory Perez
on Wednesday.
Nearly 1,000 have received
operations for various eye
problems, Perez told a medical
conference held at the
Guatemalan Journalists
Association (APG).
Rolando Barroso, first secretary
of the Cuban Embassy, said
Operation Miracle has been
designed to restore the sight to
six million poor people
worldwide within ten years.
APG President Hugo Rolando Lopez
also extolled the Cuban medical
brigades that have been working
for many years in rural
Guatemalan areas.
