BetonSports Deny Deal
BetonSports representatives have
denied reports that the company
had reached a deal with US
prosecutors on charges against
the company and David Carruthers,
its chief executive who was
arrested travelling to Costa
Rica.
"Neither the company nor lawyers
acting on its behalf have
reached any such agreement nor
are they in negotiations with
any other party to these
proceedings," BetonSports said
in a statement.
After hearing the rumours shares
in PartyGaming, SportingBet and
888 gained and then lost more
than £540 million in value (us$1
billion) , causing industry
figures to warn investors to
rely more on fact orientated
reporting.
"These rumors were just thrown
out there for anyone to grab and
apparently somebody did without
realizing the consequences of
their actions," commented
Gambling911's president
Christopher Costigan.
"The only 'deal' likely by the
end of this week is whether or
not David Carruthers is released
or not after he appears in a
Missouri court."
BetonSports are thought to be
losing more than £4 million
(us$7.4 million) per day as the
dispute rages on, and said in a
statement that it was vigorously
appealing against the
restraining order.
