Mexican Election Row on
Internet
Disputes in elections in Mexico
reached out to the internet, one
day before the opening of an
electoral process expected to be
the tightest in national
history.
A hacker entered the website of
presidential candidate Manuel
Lopez Obrador and rated him as
loser in the elections. The
situation only lasted some
minutes but local media largely
covered it.
The hacker put a false letter on
Lopez Obrador´s official site,
urging civil uprising and
demonstrations against
anti-democratic ruses to prevent
him from winning.
Democratic Revolution Party
spokesman Gerardo Fernandez said
it was part of the dirty war
against their candidate.
"They are trying to affect us
and threaten us, but people do
not suck their thumbs. It is
dated July 3, and is an affront
to any thinking human," Fernando
noted.
People have been backing or
attacking presidential
candidates on the internet, and
many of their messages are read
by foreign journalists.
Latest surveys show Lopez
Obrador leading by a small
margin, ahead of National Action
Party´s Felipe Calderon, and
Roberto Madrazo, of the Alliance
for Mexico.
