Venezuelan Med Students Go to Cuba
President of Cuba Fidel Castro, through a phone call with his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez, said greeted the first group of students from that country who will travel to the island this week to study medicine.

Granma newspaper reported Tuesday that, during his talk with Chavez, who was bidding farewell to the group of almost 3,500 students, the Cuban leader said he was moved that Cuba was able to host them and called them Battalion for Life.

According to the daily, the medicine students attending the farewell ceremony gave a standing ovation upon hearing from Chavez the Cuban Head of State´s greeting.

Fidel Castro also told them the Cubans are ready to welcome them in the island’s best centers, among them the Salvador Allende School and the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana.

Chavez said the largest army of students of the world is being created, thanks to the support given by the Cuban people and government.

The future physicians will arrive throughout this week in Havana and be trained as integral community doctors.
