Mexico, U.S. agree on
migrants' contribution
Mexican President Vicente Fox
and his U.S. counterpart George
W. Bush have agreed on the
important contribution of
Mexican immigrants to the U.S.
economy, presidential spokesman
Ruben Aguilar told Mexican media
on Wednesday.
Aguilar said Bush recognized the
important contribution made by
Mexican migrants to the U.S. in
his annual address on Tuesday
night.
Bush's remarks also showed he
believes Fox is adopting the
right position to resolve some
of the issues surrounding the
migration of his people, Aguilar
said.
However, Aguilar noted that Bush
also rejected any possible
amnesty for millions of
undocumented migrants working in
the United States.
Aguilar said Fox would continue
working through "appropriate
channels" for migration reform
for the two countries, adding
that Mexico wants legal and
orderly migration that respects
Mexicans' human rights.
Aguilar said the two countries
had resolved a bitter conflict
that began on Monday last week
after a confrontation between
U.S. police and alleged drug
traffickers, who were helped to
escape from U.S. territory by
armed men allegedly wearing
Mexican army uniforms.
