Economy Growth Over 7 Percent
The Central Bank of Costa Rica disclosed last week that the economy of the country will grow over 7 percent this year, the largest variation since 1999, when it went 8.2 percent up.

Bank chairman Francisco Gutierrez pointed out that 2006 has been a very good year, when referring to the positive performance of the leading economic indicators.

He pointed out that the projections are based on the behavior of the Monthly Index of Economic Activity in the last 12 months –through October–, when it went 7.7 percent up.

According to Gutierrez, the variation reflects the dynamism of the Gross Domestic Product.

The economist remarked that exports increased this year by 18 percent, mainly because of a boom in produce, free-zone, and industrial exports.
