Annual Teletón A Success
The annual "teletón" got underway Friday night and with the help of special guest performances by Gloria Trevi and a host of national and international celebrities, at the close last night the 2006 Teletón marathon had collected ¢125.7 million colones (us$2.44 million dollars).

Some of the other guest performances includes David Bisbal, who was late for his appearance due to a set back in El Salvador, Lorena Rojas, Tony Meléndez and Amaury Gutiérrez, who filled the Palacio de los Deportes in Heredia to full capacity.

Some of the presenters and entertainers included La 1/2 Docena, Adriana Durán, Ana Cecilia Ortíz and Benito Lo Sé Todo. Famous faces on national television included Édgar Silva, Patricia Figueroa, Freddy Serrano and Lizeth Castro, who opened the Teletón and kept the rhythm going.

However, the cherry pie was the performance by Mexico's Gloria Trevi, who not only in appearing in telethons also has a foundation in Mexico to help needy children.

The telethon was also broadcast live on national television.
