Salvadorans Want Troops Home from Iraq
In the only Latin American country with troops in Iraq, El Salvador s FMLN party (Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front) rejected on Monday Salvadorian President Antonio Saca s declarations of sending more troops there, and instead demanded urgent return of those still stationed in that country.

Carlos Alfredo Castañeda, opposition party deputy and member of the Foreign Affairs Congressional Committee, stressed that the US legislative election results show that the war in Iraq "is a defeat."

For the FMLN, it was US citizens who buried the false arguments the US administration had used to attack that Middle East nation.

Castañeda said the return of the troops deployed in that country has gained an urgent nature, simply because they have no place in that Arab nation.

He said that by joining the United States in the occupation of Iraq, his country becomes an "accomplice of the massacres the US army is carrying out against the Iraqi civilian population."

Recent surveys in El Salvador show that 70 percent of the population reject the troops continuance in that war, said Castañeda.
