Gangs Impose Their Law In Pavas
Police are promising the residents of Pavas more resources to combat the growing gang problem, especially in the area known as Finca San Juan.

Pavas is a community west of San José that is home to a large number of illegals and due to its only one entrance and exit out of the large community, has become a conflictive area that police have been trying to control with the little manpower assigned to the area.

Drug trafficking, robberies and a score of other crimes are common in the area, which is also home to many of the country's worst criminals.

Thursday night the area was invaded by a gang from the La Carpio community who began a "gang war" over reasons still unclear to police, though one police source said it was probably due to a conflict between the gangs over a woman.

Thursday night, in the face of the disturbance, police mounted a serious operative, with reinforcements from other areas and the UID, the special police unit to control riots, detained 12 people, as they calmed down the disturbances that caused panic among the residents of the area.

This is not the first time this type of disturbance has occurred and police have vowed to add police personnel and patrols in the area.

Residents have been outspoken against the police in-action and have said that if the authorities don't do anything to control the situation, they will take matters in the their own hands to defend themselves and their homes.
