HP Expanding Call Centre
in Costa Rica
Hewlett-Packard plans to expand
its work force in San José. But
it's not talking about the
capital of Silicon Valley.
San José, Costa Rica, where HP
already employs 3,300 call
centre workers, will eventually
host nearly twice that many
workers with the opening of a
new building, HP announced
Friday.
The building adds onto the
existing call centre in San
José.e, which currently handles
70,000 support calls a day for
English-, French- and
Spanish-speaking customers of
HP.
Procter & Gamble is one of HP's
major clients handled by the
support centre, it said.
HP provides IT support for P&G,
and payroll and accounting
services to other clients at the
center.
HP has been consolidating its
own service centres over this
year as part of CEO Mark Hurd's
cost-cutting plans. It has
announced plans to condense 85
data centres into six locations,
and slice off superfluous real
estate holdings.
