Woman Fed Up Husband's Abuse Stabs Him To Death
An enraged women just couldn't take any more of her husband's constat aggression when she picked up a kitchen knike and stabbed in the chest six times. The man fell dead on the stop where he stood minutes earlier arguing with his woman.

The incident occurred yesterday morning shortly before noon in the "precario" in the Triángulo de la Solidaridad, Tibás. Precarios are homes - shacks in most cases - built on public lands, settled by squatters.

The victim was identified as Carlos Nazario Ríos Acosta, a 44 year old Nicaraguan construction worker. His wife, identified as, María López Zapata, also a Nicaraguan, is owner of a vegetable stand.

Authorities say that an argument resulted when the man tried to take money from the woman, money she had earned at her small business selling vegetables all week.

Police add that the couple had been out drinking all night and when they got to their "rancho" (home), the argument over money began shortly after their arrival.

Neighbours heard the argument followed by screams. The woman could be heard as she called for neighbours to get her out of there as her husband was beating and threatening here, a normal occurrence, one neighbour, who refused to give her name, told the media.

One neighbour who gave her name as Minerva said she went to the woman's aid but found María seated and bleeding, while Carlos was tying up his shoes to go out drinking again. She left.

Minutes later, María exploded and not taking any more of her husband's abuse, pulled the kitchen knife from his hands, threw herself on her man and stabbed him repeatedly.

When Minerva returned for the second time, she now found Carlos on the floor bleeding and asked María what she had done. "I killed him", Minerva says was María's response.

The Red Cross and police were on the scene moments later but could do nothing for the man. The woman was taken into custody. She is claiming self defence as her husband had threatened her on many occasions and this time she feared for her life more than the other times.

Police captain Carlos Zuñiga said his men were responding to a domestic violence call but then took the woman into custody when they discovered that the man had been killed. The woman is now in the hands of the homicide section of the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) who will investigate the case in depth.
