Murders on Rise in El Salvador
In July the daily homicide
average in El Salvador reached
12, with 357 killed, police
statisticians reported
Wednesday.
This figure represents a
significant increase compared to
June, when 320 people were
victims of the recent wave of
violence gripping this Central
American nation.
According to Antonio Cabrales,
president of the Salvadorian
Foundation for Economic and
Social Development, this
business association fears
criminality is beginning to
reduce the contribution of this
sector.
The country, said Cabrales, has
created a series of proposals to
fight crime, but they have not
yet been made public.
A police analysis shows the most
affected localities are the
capital, San Salvador, with 128
homicides, and the departments
of La Libertad and Santa Ana,
with 57 and 36 murders
respectively.
