Colombia's Uribe Sworn-In
Colombian Re-elected President
Alvaro Uribe was sworn in Monday
for a second consecutive term
(2006-2010) in this Andean
country.
For the first time in Colombian
history, a woman, Congress
President Dilia Francisca Toro,
took Uribe s oath and placed the
presidential band on him.
Toro also took Vice President
Francisco Santos oath.
After a constitutional reform
for immediate presidential
reelection was approved by
Congress, Uribe won the May 28
general elections with little
more than 62 percent of valid
votes.
Thus Uribe has become the second
Colombian president to be
reelected for a second
consecutive term and the first
to achieve that goal in a
century.
