Caribbean Transport Comes
Together
Geographical proximity is the
biggest treasure of the Greater
Caribbean in its integration
desires and also an obstacle
that dissolves with the
remarkable advances in the
cooperation deals in air and
maritime transport.
These are the first reflections
shared by the Special Committee
on Transport of the Association
of the Caribbean States (ACS)
meeting in Panama City.
Also encouraging was the
solution of the US critique of
Venezuelan airlines for alleged
lack of security, which offered
new possibilities for regional
transport cooperation.
The Venezuelan delegation also
announced the opening of direct
flights Caracas-Port Spain,
Trinidad and Tobago´s capital
and main ACS headquarters.
Likewise, Copa, the Panamanian
leading airline, released it
will shortly include the Panama
City-Port of Spain flight in its
routes.
ACS Special Committee on
Transport chair Angel Socarras
expressed the bloc´s interest
for solving any issues that
favor regional tourism and
trade.
Socarras added that the Air
Agreement, which aims at
stimulating regional airlines to
provide more intra-regional
services at lower cost, for
trade, investment plus
multi-destination tourism, has
been clinched by 15 ACS
