Focus of Caribbean Meeting
Energy field representatives of
the Organization of Eastern
Caribbean States (OECO) will
meet Tuesday in Antigua and
Barbuda to analyze the advance
of PETROCARIBE and other
regional issues.
The third meeting of the group
will include the analysis of an
eventual OECO agreement with the
private sector, in relation to
distribution and storage of
petrol products, according to
the regulations created in 2005.
The agreement, bringing to
fruition a project of Venezuelan
President Hugo Chavez, came out
in late June as a political and
commercial initiative to
conserve non-renewable resources
and benefit the Caribbean
Community.
The energy policy established by
the organization since its
foundation in 1981 will also be
part of the meeting´s agenda.
The Organization of Eastern
Caribbean States is a regional
institution that boosts
technical cooperation and
sustainable development of six
independent countries and three
UK territories in the zone.
It is made up by Antigua and
Barbuda, Dominica, Granada,
Santa Lucia, San Cristobel and
Nevis, San Vicente and the
Grenadines, Anguilla and
Montserrat and the British
Virgin Islands.
