Law Would See Ticos Retiring At 55
A piece of legislation that would allow Costa Rican to retire at 55 is moving ahead a quick pace through the Legislative Assembly, with less than two weeks before a new legislature is convened, following February's election.

Presently, Ticos (Costa Rican men) can retire at 65 while Ticas (Costa Rican women) can retire and receive their pension at age 62.

However, the new law would allow those that meet certain requirements or voluntarily decide to retire can do so at age 55. The proposal has the majority support but it has yet to reach the voting floor.

The only thing in the way is time. Experts don't know if there is sufficient time in the current session to pass the bill or if the new government and new legislature will convert it into law or shelf it.
