Salvadoran Government Admits
Serious Health Situation
Salvadoran Health Minister Jose
Guillermo Maza on Saturday
admitted that his country has a
disastrous medical situation,
due to a shortage of personnel
and inappropriate
infrastructure.
Maza said that human resources
are insufficient and they are
highly untrained in many cases,
adding that there is a huge
shortage of doctors and
paramedics at health facilities
throughout the country.
The minister pointed out that
the World Health Organization
(WHO) has been informed about
the very bad conditions in which
Salvadoran physicians work.
Maza warned that the government
has shown little concern about
improving the labor conditions
of the health personnel, who are
often exposed to contagious
diseases due to a lack of
protection.
