Cuban women's social status rises rapidly: govt
The Cuban government said on Thursday that the status of Cuban women has risen rapidly over the past years, and they now occupy many positions that previously belonged to men.

The government said that Cuban women currently take 36 percent of the seats in the National Assembly, six percent more than in 2004.

In addition, there are six female ministers and 30 female vice ministers in the government.

Women also account for 71 percent of the country's prosecutors, over 60 percent of judicial leaders and professional judges and almost half of the members of the Supreme Tribunal.

In the field of education, 63 percent of university graduates are women.

Through their achievements in education, Cuban women have access to better jobs and constitute two thirds of hired professionals and technicians in the country.
