Salvador FMLN Demands Social
Budget
The opposition El Salvadoran
party, FMLN-Farabundo Marti
National Liberation Front, has
conditioned its approval of the
budget on increases in wages and
pensions and return to the
national currency.
FMLN said the return of the
colon would mend the economic
situation and increase buying
power for the population.
Schafik Nadal, head of the
progressive legislative
representation, said an increase
of 30 percent should be
guaranteed for public employees´
salaries and for retirees.
Finance Minister Guillermo
Suarez rejected the demands
saying the government does not
have the money to increase
pensions and salaries.
