Venezuela police seizes 2.5 tons of cocaine
The Venezuelan National Guard has seized 2.5 tons of cocaine in the north Orinoco region, President Hugo Chavez said Sunday.

Part of the haul had been found in t he inside of a United States-registered plane, Chavez said in his weekly television and radio show.

Eleven people were arrested in a police raid on a hidden airfield and six others who fled were being tracked down, Chavez said.

Experts estimate some 300 tons of cocaine flows abroad each year through Venezuela from neighboring Colombia.
