Nicaraguan Mayors March for
Budget
The mayors from 153 Nicaraguan
municipalities and hundreds of
workers marched to the National
Assembly in Managua Tuesday
demanding respect for their
offices´ legal budget
percentage.
Managua Mayor Dionisio Marenco,
also leader of the Association
of Nicaraguan Municipalities (AMUNIC),
said they do not want the law
changed, as the Enrique Bolanos
Administration plans to freeze
six percent of municipal funds
instead of the 10 percent agreed
for 2007.
The mayors claim this four
percent deduction could be used
to repair streets and
transportation and meet the
people's needs by assuming
government duties of education
and health care.
But the administration has
justified the freeze by the need
to meet International Monetary
Fund demands as well as those of
other international financial
institutions.
Marenco said he expects the
Legislature will pay attention
to their demands because they
are fair and right.certificate is an addition to
the ISO 14000 and SA 8000
certificates
