Taxis Want Increase
Get ready for another major
increase - taxi fares.
According to the Autoridad
Reguladora de los Servicios
Públicos (ARESEP) - the
regulator of public prices and
services - the Federación
Nacional de Cooperativas de
Taxis has asked the regulator
for a whopping increase of 60%
in taxi fares, to be applied in
three parts, 20% every six
months.
The increase, if approved, would
mean an increase in ¢50 colones
per kilometre.
Taxi operators argue that they
have been left out in the cold
with the high cost of gasoline
and that at there is at a 130%
break between the actual fares
and what they should be earning.
The current fare is set at ¢285
colones for the first kilometre
and then ¢160 colones for each
additional kilometre.
This news comes on t he heels of
the decision earlier this week
that will see gasoline prices
drop ¢25 a litre as early as
tomorrow.
