Cameras to be installed along Mexico-US border to combat violence
A total of 300 cameras will be set up in the Mexican northeastern state of Nuevo Leon along the border with the United States as a wave of drug-related violence increased, the authorities said on Tuesday.

At a press conference, State Attorney General Luis Carlos Trevino said the cameras are aimed at preventing the drug-related violence and the surveillance system will be put on operation within 20 days.

"Through the cameras connected to the state Public Security Department (SSP), it will be possible to read the license plates of suspicious cars and have an immediate match with data-bank information," said Trevino.

On Monday, four people were assassinated in the state capital of Monterrey, some 200 km south of the borders between Mexico and the United States. Two bodies were badly burned when they were found in separate locations in the city, police said.

Trevino said his office and the SSP are determined to crack down on the rampant crimes in the zone.
