Venezuela´s New Step against International Terrorism
The Venezuelan justice has taken a new step against international terrorism by approving a request to extradite from the US the terrorist of Cuban origin, Luis Posada Carriles.

The decision clashes with statements made by the US assistant secretary of State, Roger Noriega, who had said he is not aware whether Posada Carriles is in the United States territory.

Posada Carriles is responsible for many terrorist actions against Cuba, including the explosion of a civil plane in Barbados airspace in October 1976, that killed 73 people.

Noriega´s statements are interpreted in Caracas as an attempt by Washington to evade responsibility for keeping Posada Carriles in its territory.

A Venezuelan court presented the extradition request on April 27 and the Justice Ministry considered on May 2 the demand is within the law and should be approved.

The Venezuelan justice claims that there is enough evidence to put Posada Carriles to trial for masterminding and contributing to crimes regarded as homicide and treason to the country.

Venezuela demanded the extradition of Posada Carriles after learning that the notorious terrorist was in the United States. Posada´s lawyer has requested political asylum for his client from the US government on grounds that he had worked directly or indirectly for the CIA.
