Honduran president unharmed in plane mishap
Honduran President Ricardo Maduro was unhurt after a small plane carrying him and two others made a forced landing in the Caribbean sea near a Honduran beach on Sunday, a presidential spokesman said.

The airplane had a mechanical problem and the engine stopped when it was about to land in Tela, a beach resort some 180 km from the capital Tegucigalpa, said presidential spokesman Jorge Barrios.

Maduro, his daughter Lorena and the pilot of the plane, which took off from Tegucigalpa, were unharmed after they were pulled out of the water by local residents, the spokesman said. Maduro was taken to hospital after the mishap.

Maduro, 59, was on his way to a scheduled meeting in Tela with Mayor Daniel Flores to discuss a government development project, according to Barrios.
