Higher Inflation Expected
The inflation forecasts by advisory and expert groups surpass the goal that the Central Bank had set for the year 2005, namely 10 percent, which is the figure that the indicator had between 1999 and 2003.

Last year, the overall rise in the consumer prices on which inflation is based was 13.13 percent.

Now, CEFSA, a financial and economic advising company, forecasts 11.5 percent, while analyst firm ECOANALISIS quotes 12 percent.

According to a survey of advisors, businessmen, and professionals, inflation will reach 11.2 percent.

The rise in the price of oil, the high fiscal deficit, the increase in the cost of public services, and devaluation are considered the major reasons for the upward trend of inflation in Costa Rica.
