Conference on Latin America´s Pending Issues Opens in
Cuba
The conference on Latin America
in the 21st Century opens Sunday in Varadero beach resort with the
attendance of more than 300 outstanding public figures, scientists and
lawmakers from more than 20 countries.
The Russian delegation, led by Vladimir Yakunin, will enjoy a unique
opportunity to learn about the reality of the country, during the
sessions of the World Social Forum Dialogue of Civilizations, in which
the conference is inserted, a press handout indicates.
Yakunin regretted the Russian society felt the lack of information on
the processes taking place in America.
Having chosen Cuba to host the conference responds to its considerable
influence and prestige in the region and the large participation
confirms the right selection was made, according to Yakunin
Beyond any doubt, contacts among participants will become an instrument
to structure a new international order, based on the principles of
freedom, equality and social justice, Yakunin commented.
The key issue at the international meeting in Cuba will be the
discussion of problems that Latin American countries face in time of
globalization.
The Conference will close at Havana´s Conference Center, with the
signing of a Joint Final Declaration.
According to organizers, the members of the Forum will meet in the Greek
island of Rhodes in early October and the following meeting will be held
in an Arab nation.
