Pacheco Thanks Costa Ricans for Their Support
"I want to first thank one and all for the
support you have given me in the latest poll by the Diario Extra", were
the words of President Abel Pacheco on national television Sunday night.
The president added that, notwithstanding the immense difficulties that
"we have faced, we have done our best to give the good and noble people
what they deserve. That is why I am here every day fighting for you."
Pacheco used figures recently released by the International Monetary
Fund that Costa Rica was one of the few countries in the Americas that
was able to increase it's attraction of foreign investment.
The President told his television audience that in the year 2000,
foreign investment in Costa Rica was us$409 million dollars, however, in
2004 that amount increased to us$585 million, representing a 43%
increase in only four years.
Pacheco recognized that though achievements have been made, there are
still pending matters that the country is facing, mainly the Tratado
Libre de Comercio (TLC) - free trade agreement with the United States
and the Reforma Fiscal (tax reforms).
He concluded his remarks thanking all Costa Ricans wishing them the best
for the Semana Santa.
