CARICOM Strengthening Cooperation with UN
Economic Commission
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the
United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNECLAC)
have agreed to move forward in deepening collaboration on several
economic fields.
The two organizations identified trade negotiations training and studies
on the impact of the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME) on
certain countries and sectors as two areas for cooperation, the
Caribbean Media Corporation reports.
According to a CARICOM statement, they will also work on restructuring
of production for competitiveness, analysis of labour market trends,
gender analysis in development planning and disaster assessment
methodology, including post disaster gender impact assessment.
Transport and tourism are also areas in which they can work together in
the future, the Secretariat of the Caribbean body said.
The two sides discussed current and future cooperation at a recent
meeting in Georgetown, where CARICOM has its new headquarters.
