OHL Agrees To Repair All

consortium, Obrascón
Huarte Laín (OHL)
- the company who built the Alajuela Hospital met yesterday with Dr. Alberto Sáenz, president of the Caja Costarricense de
Seguro Social (CSS), and agreed to repair all the faults experienced at
the newly built hospital.
The company said it would begin with the repairs today.
Francisco Marín, a representative for the Spanish company said in a
press conference that OHL will assume all liability and made all the
necessary repairs.
The company named
Eduardo Cascante, an engineer
there, to head the repair work and ensure that all the complaints are
investigated and action taken.
In the coming days, OHL will present to the CCSS a report on it's
findings and progress on the repair work.
The hospital cost some us$40 million dollars
to build in a contract given to
OHL. Last week,
OHL executives fled the country
short after arriving, fearing their detention. On Thursday afternoon, officials of the Fiscalía de Delitos Económicos
raided the offices of OHL and
detained the managing director,
Hernaldo Lazo, who will be
sitting out the next three
months in jail after a court
dictated preventive measures
against him.
Israel Moya, a manager at the
CCSS was also given the same
preventive measures for his role
in what is suspected to be a
case of corruption.
