Drunk Off Duty Transit Official Shoots Prostitute for Denying Him Sex
A Transit official was arrested last night for shooting at a woman who refused to offer him her sexual favours. The incident occurred a block south of Clinica Biblica on Avenida 18 and Calle 0, in downtown San José.

The victim was identified as 19 year old Hellen Hernández who prowled the streets near the bar Las Margaritas. According to witnesses, the traffic officer identified as Arguello was drinking in a nearby bar and in a drunken state demanded sex from the young woman.

The woman, said that the man smelled of liquor and on seeing a gun refused to offer the man her services, so he shot her and fled, but was apprehended nearby by officers of the Fuerza Pública. The other women on the corner immediately called 911. The woman is in stable condition in hospital.

The Transit officer had a blood alcohol level of 1.78, meaning he was drunk when he shot the woman and when he drove away from the scene.

Transit officers are not permitted to carry their firearms off duty, however, Arguello did have permission, according to Policía de Tránsito director, Juan Manuel Delgado, as he had been threatened several times by pirate taxi drivers in the past months.
