Argentine police arrest 18 suspected drug-traffickers
Argentine police on Wednesday arrested 18 people suspected to be involved in cocaine trafficking.

The arrests were made in a large-scale operation in the capital city and the provinces of Chaco, Misiones and Buenos Aires, said the authorities.

The detainees were from a drug-trafficking ring which shipped more than one ton of cocaine to Spain, said the authorities.

The operation came after Spanish police last Saturday seized 708 kg of cocaine which were hidden in coal sacks in Valencia and shipped from the Argentine port of Zarate.

Argentine authorities said they are keeping in close coordination with the United States and Europe regarding the case, as the drug-trafficking ring may have branches in France and Italy.
