Inflation Keeps on Raging
Costa Rica is lagging behind in
the struggle against inflation
in Latin America.
In the last 10 years, the
countries in the region were
able to halt the rise in prices,
but here they have remained at
10 percent to 13 percent a year.
In 1996, the average inflation
in Latin America was 19 percent,
14 percent in Costa Rica.
In 2004, the average was 7
percent, but 13 percent in Costa
Rica, who was surpassed only by
Venezuela.
According to the available data for the first quarter this year, Costa
Rica now heads the list with the
highest inflation, according to
the International Monetary Fund.
