Police chief assassinated in
Mexico
A high-ranking police officer in
the northern Mexican city of
Nuevo Laredo was shot dead
Thursday after another one was
wounded in that city on the US
border.
The victim, identified as
Enrique Cardenas Saldala, who
took office as the supervisor of
No. 4 police base a year ago,
received eight shots when
leaving his residence on Fidel
Velazquez Street to drive his
daughter to school. The girl was
inside his car and unhurt.
Cardenas Saldala is the seventh
police officer killed this year
in Nuevo Laredo.
The killing occurred just one
day after an earlier murder
attempt targeting policemen. On
early Wednesday, municipal
preventive police commander
Samuel Alvarado Torres, 43, was
injured in an attack. The
perpetrators have not yet been
identified.
