Nicaraguan police seize 900 kg
cocaine
The Nicaraguan police seized 900
kg cocaine hidden in a truck and
arrested the Costa Rican driver
in Penas Blancas, near the
border with Costa Rica, local
reports said Thursday.
The drugs were detected by a
sniff dog on Wednesday, local
reports quoted Deputy
Commissioner Francisco Lopez,
anti-narcotics chief of Rivas
Department, as saying.
The police identified the
detainee as Alfredo Leonel
Fernandez Mora, 29.
The drugs, allegedly made in
Colombia and bound for the
United States, were contained in
875 packages hidden in the
truck.
The police chief said this
confiscation of cocaine is the
largest one in Nicaragua this
year.
The police became suspicious of
the truck driver as he appeared
nervous prior to the inspection
in Penas Blancas, southwest
Nicaragua.
The driver said he had arrived
in Nicaragua to load meat, but
the police found the vehicle
lacked the necessary sanitary
conditions to do so.
With the assistance of a sniff
dog, the police found the
cocaine with a market value of
10 million US dollars.
