A Terrorist Attack Could Happen Here
The terrorist attack in London on Wednesday has led specialists to believe that Costa Rica is not free to suffer from such attacks.

Terrorism knowns no borders. In all continents terrorists have made their attacks. And though Costa Rica doesn't form a part of the declared enemies by the radical islamic groups that are behind many of the attacks, it is not exempt.

And even though any Arab national who wishes to visit Costa Rica requires a visa issued only by the director of immigration, there is fear among the population.

In Costa Rica there is a strong security presence at the airports and border, however, very little security is evident at public buildings and most embassies scattered around San José.

For instance, the only security measures evident at the British Embassy on Paseo Colón is a security guard who needs to issue a pass to enter the elevator going to the embassy floor. Visitors to other floors can easily access the embassy floor, which has no visible security present.

A few days ago an alert went out when a known Al Qaeda member was in Honduras, prompting a high security alert in the area.

And just last week the President of Central America proposed creating a regional antiterrorist police force, of which Costa Rica says it will not belong.
