Hong Kong Becomes Costa
Rica's 2nd Largest Market
Hong Kong replaced the
Netherlands as the second most
important market for Costa Rica
this year, Costa Rica's Foreign
Trade Promoter (PROCOMER) said
Monday.
During the first 11 months of
this year, Costa Rica exported
us$421 million dollars worth of
goods to Hong Kong, up by 267%
over the same period in 2004,
said a PROCOMER report.
The United States remained the
most important market for Costa
Rica, receiving 40.3% of
exports. Hong Kong was listed
the second, receiving 6.6%
percent, and the Netherlands,
listed the third, receiving
6.3%.
Major items exported to Hong
Kong include integrated
circuits, micro-electronic
products, modular-circuit parts,
parts for television and radio
transmitters and receivers, and
dried and smoked fish, said the
report.
During the January-November
period, Costa Rica's total
exports amounted to us$6.392
billion dollars, up by 10.2%
over the same period in 2004,
reported PROCOMER.
The trade organization
forecasted that the country's
total exports would rise to
us$6.9 billion dollars by the
end of the year, up by 10% over
2004.
According to the report, mango
exports recorded an impressive
increase of 42% in 2005, the
highest among all items exported
from Costa Rica, which was
followed by tires, thread, and
cable and electronic conductors.
