Do You Know Your Neigbour?
Maybe You Should.
Not knowing your neighbour could
cost you to lose everything
inside your home or business, as
the case of a man who rented
retail space next to a jewellery
store so that he could rob it.
The robbery took place in the
Tejar de El Guarco, Cartago. The
thief made of with ¢15 million
colones (us$30.000 dollars) from
the Yoyería y Relojería Araya.
According to Ronald Araya, owner
of the jewellery store, told
police that a man in his fifties
came in to beg him to rent him
the the space next to his store.
Thinking it over for a while, he
accepted the man's offer.
The man came in on Wednesday to
give Araya the first and last
month's rent and received the
keys to the space. Thursday
morning, when Araya opened his
store, he found some of the
display cabinets empty and
everything strewn on the floor.
Araya immediately thought of the
safe where he kept the valuables
and found it opened and empty.
An aceteline torch had been used
to cut through the metal and
open the lock. They had all the
time, no hurry, since they were
neighbours.
Looking for an entry point,
Araya discovered that the
thieves had come through an
opening to the adjacent space
rented the day earlier.
