Social Spending Stands Out
Costa Rica stands out in Latin
America because of the amount it
dedicates to social spending, in
relation to its production.
Just as Argentina, Brazil, Cuba,
and Uruguay do, Costa Rica
destines over 18% of its
production to social expenses,
according to the Social Outlook
in Latin America, published by
the Economy Commission for Latin
America and the Caribbean.
The analysis refers to the
spending on education, health,
housing, security, and social
aid.
According to the Commission,
public social spending has a
meaningful impact on the income
of the poorest households.
