Argentina passes law making everyone organ donor
The Argentine congress passed a law on Wednesday to make all citizens organ donor candidates unless they explicitly refuse the idea.

The measure, which was introduced to the congress last year by Argentine President Nestor Kirchner, was approved unanimously by the Senate on Wednesday after it was passed by the Chamber of Deputies. The law is the first of its kind in Latin America.

"This law means more lives will be saved," said Vice President Daniel Scioli, who is also Senate president.

Before the new law, only people who explicitly expressed the wish to donate their organs after death would contribute to organ and tissue transplants.

Spain, Austria and Belgium are among the countries with high rates of organ donation and they have similar laws.
