Brazil expects permanent seat on
UN Security Council
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio
Lula da Silva says Brazil will
obtain a permanent seat on the
UN Security Council if the
organization's reforms succeed.
Lula told a local press during a
Friday interview that Brazil has
"the right" to take the place
destined for Latin America as it
is the region's biggest country
with the largest population.
Brazil has been campaigning for
a permanent seat on the UN
Security Council since UN
Secretary General Kofi Annan
unveiled plans to add nine new
members to the 60-year-old world
body.
