Colombian Police Break Up Counterfeiters
Colombian police report that they broke up a gang of counterfeiters that
send "dollars" to various countries in Latin America, among them Costa
Rica.
Police in Medellín say they arrested 23 in a join operation with the
United States Secret Service.
The group is believed to send large amounts of counterfeit US dollars to
Panama, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, the United States and Costa
Rica.
The raid netter some us$1.3 million dollars in $5, $10, $20 and $100
bills, ready for distribution. The raid also netted authorities 81
presses and 104 film plates used to produce the counterfeit bills.
Colombian police believe that more than 40% of all counterfeit US bills
around the world are produced in Colombia.
