Reprimand for Political Donations
Private donations to Costa Rican political campaigns have been excessive and they are linked to corruption, drug-trafficking, abuse of power, and practices that go against public interest.

These are part of the conclusions of a report on political funding in Latin America that was sponsored by the Organization of American States (OAS) and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, an independent organization that operates at world level with headquarters in Sweden.

According to the study, the donations here are linked to the "acquisition" of privileges and access to the people who are eventually chosen to the Executive and the Legislative branches, in order to "ease" appointments, bids, loans, bills, decrees, and regulations for the benefit of the donors.

According to the researchers who carried out the analysis, it is urgent to make effective changes in the Costa Rican electoral system, in order to lower the cost of campaigns.
