Cuban foreign
minister satirizes US failure in
isolation
Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe
Perez said Friday that the
United States has failed in its
attempt to isolate the island
and has instead found itself
isolated in the world by pursing
that policy.
"The United
Nations has for 12 straight
years condemned Washington's
anti-Cuba policy," Perez told
Cuban religious leaders.
Cuba has lost some 80 billion US
dollars due to the decade-longUS
blockade, said the top Cuban
diplomat, adding however that
attempts to bring the Caribbean
country to its knees have
failed.
Cuba has presented a draft
resolution to the UN that urges
an end to a 43-year-old trade
embargo imposed by the US on the
Caribbean island.
The draft resolution, to be
voted on by the UN General
Assembly on Oct. 28, reiterated
the principles of sovereign
equality among nations,
non-interference in the internal
affairs of other countries, and
freedom of international trade
and navigation.
Last November, Cuba's resolution
got 179 votes in favor. Only
Israel and the Marshall Islands
joined the United States in
voting against.
