Calderón Goes to Jail!
Following almost 24 hours in a jail cell at the Goicochea court house, former president, Rafael Angel Calderón Fournier, was ordered to spend the next nine months in La Reforma prison in a preventive detention measure as the Fiscalía continues its investigation in the Fischel-Caja scandal.

Criminal court judge, Carmen Peraza, made the decision to sent the former president to jail rather than under house arrest as was the case with former president Miguel Angel Rodríguez, accused of corruption in the ICE-Alcatel scandal.

La Reforma, is located in San Rafael de Alajuela and is the only prison that has the maximum security cells to be able to protect the Calderón against any reprisals from other inmates.

Television channels were able to broadcast live the movement of the the former president to the La Reforma. Noticias Repretel has a mobile camera follow the police operation, while Telenoticias broadcast the 14km trip from high up in the air from a helicopter.
