Cell phone service in Costa Rica is provided by only
one carrier, ICE (Instituto Costarricense de
Electricidad) and your cell phone will not connect
to the ICE system unless you have made special
arrangements in advance of your trip.

Oceans Shipwrecked by Pollution and Indifference
It is
virtually irrelevant for the United Nations to dedicate World Environment
Day this year to the conservation of the world's seas and oceans, because
there is no real awareness of the severity of pollution and over-fishing,
environmental activist Marcel Claude told IPS.
Claude, vice-president of Oceana South America-Antarctica, based in the
Chilean capital, said the U.N. decision was a step in the right direction,
but is no more than an chance to momentarily place the plundering of ocean
resources, which few seem to care about, on the global agenda.

The Venus Transit 2004
On June 8, 2004, Venus - the Earth's
sister planet - will pass in Front of the Sun. This event - astronomers
refer to it as a "transit", is extremely rare - the last one occurred in
1882 - 122 years ago.
Easily observable in Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia, it is likely to
attract the attention of millions of people on these continents and, indeed,
all over the world.
The European Southern Observatory (ESO),
in collaboration with the European
Association for Astronomy Education (EAAE), together with the

Sciences of the Czech Republic has therefore set-up the Venus
Transit 2004 (VT-2004) project with support of the European Commission,
in the framework of the European Science and Technology Week.
