Lula, Chavez on Bilateral Affairs
Brasilia - The
presidents of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da
Silva, and Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, plan to
examine bilateral affairs Tuesday, with
emphasis on industrial, agricultural and
housing cooperation, and banking services
for the low-income population.
The dialogue in Salvador, capital of the
Brazilian state of Bahia, will be the sixth
between the two presidents, as part of the
series of presidential meetings they have
been holding since 2007, official spokesman
Marcelo Baumbach stated.
Meanwhile, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry
issued a release saying the presidents will
assess bilateral trade, energy initiatives
and projects to foster integration and
border development.
Lula and Chavez will also review regional
issues, particularly prospects of the coming
meeting of the Union of South American
Nations and the South Common Market (MERCOSUR).
In the international arena, they will
address actions to reduce the effects of the
international financial crisis.
The private meeting will be followed by
another between the official delegations
from the two countries, the signing of
several agreements, and a press conference,
the spokesman pointed out.
