Nicaragua Discards 124 Possible Cases Of
A/H1N1 Flu
Managua -- The Nicaraguan
health authorities have ruled out 124
possible cases of A/H1N1 flu since a state
of sanitary emergency was imposed in the
country on April 24, China's Xinhua news
agency quoted health officials here as
saying Tuesday.
Nicaraguan Health Minister Guillermo
Gonzalez said Tuesday that his country and
Central America in general do not have
enough means to diagnose the new flu, so he
has requested for necessary assistance from
international health organizations.
Gonzalez, who also is coordinator of the
Central American council of Health System,
said that to the moment his country does not
have a confirmed case of the novel flu,
making it the only Central American nation
free from the new flu virus.
At the end of a video conference with his
counterparts from Guatemala, Costa Rica and
Panama, Gonzalez said that it is urgent to
have enough means to make lab tests.
Gonzalez said that Central America has to
raise its alert levels to face the epidemic,
since in Panama and Costa Rica the most
affected are those under 15 years old.
The Nicaraguan health authorities Monday
reinforced vigilance against the H1N1 virus
on its borders with Costa Rica and Honduras. |
